TF4 Box Office Report

Transformers Age of Extinction is slowly wrapping up it's fairly short theater run thanks to the push for early home release sales. As of August 26th, Transformers 4 has taken in roughly $243,890,199 domestically and $821,300,000 in international sales as of August 24th. This gives the film a current worldwide total of $1,065,190,199 and the number 12 spot on the all-time box office list, just behind Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Age of Extinction will have to surpass The Dark Knight Rises' $1.084 billion total in order to crack the top 10. Compared to Dark of the Moon, the fourth film has taken in slightly less. The third film obtained a $1.071 billion gross by August 14th, which is more than what TF4 has made to this point. By August 28th in 2011, Dark of the Moon had already made slightly over $1.1 billion.

TF4 Passes $1 Billion, Bay to Return?

Transformers Age of Extinction has crossed the $1 billion dollar mark. It did so on August 2nd when the foreign box office numbers for the film came in from July 27th, so even though it was official slightly later than Dark of the Moon (July 31st), the mark was crossed at roughly the exact same time. Also it is notable that there were many countries where TF4 was released later due to the World Cup. As of August 3rd, Transformers 4 has totaled $241,206,987 in the US and has just now fallen outside the top 10 (11th) in daily earnings. The movie should come very close to Captain America The Winter Soldier and The Lego Movie domestically but only time will tell if it is able to surpass them. Overall, Age of Extinction now sits at $1,005,006,987 worldwide as of August 3rd, which puts it 18th all time. It passed The Dark Knight for that 18th spot yesterday. Transformers 4 has yet to be released in three more countries, including Japan.

Michael Bay is now rumored to return for Transformers 5 after signing a three year extension with Paramount Pictures. This does not necessarily guarantee a return to the director's chair for more Transformers films though. The deal was specifically in regards to Bay's production companies Platinum Dune and Bay Films. The deal could hint towards Bay directing the fifth Transformers film or it could also be for a producer role or even for another Paramount distributed movie.

Closing in on $1 Billion

As of July 27th, Age of Extinction continues to struggle domestically and has taken in $236,455,028. It is projected to keep its third place position behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Lego Movie. Worldwide though, the film continues to rake in the money. International markets have accounted for 75.5% (or $730 million) of the film's total gross of $966,455,028 (most countries other than China not reporting since July 20th) and the movie is expected to earn $1 billion within a week. For comparisons, Dark of the Moon (which came out one day later than AOE) reached $926,051,172 on July 27th, 2011 before hitting the $1 billion mark on July 31st.

Transformers Age of Extinction has to to be released in three countries: Japan, Spain (August 8) and Venezuela (August 22).

Age of Extinction Passes TF2

Yesterday, Transformers: Age of Extinction surpassed Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and has become the second highest grossing Transformers film, only behind Dark of the Moon. The film is closing in on $900 million worldwide and is currently sitting at $889,602,608. Once again, as noted before, many of the foreign totals do not come in daily and only a select few have been reported as of yesterday. Domestically as of July 20th, Age of Extinction has raked in $227,002,608 which is definitely a drop from the past three films. It is expected to be the lowest earner of the four Transformers movies and only has about a $2 million advantage over Captain America: The Winter Soldier on a path to possibly becoming the highest domestic earner of 2014. At this point in 2011, Dark of the Moon had totaled $317,369,164, while Age of Extinction is expected to come nowhere close to the $300 million mark. It should finish right around the same spot as Captain America, which finished with $258,591,352 by the end of its 63 day run in theaters. The Chinese have picked up for the domestic slack though as they continues to add more and more to their highest grossing movie record. Their current total is roughly $285,700,000 and it could possibly reach $300 million before its run is over. Overall, TF4 is doing better worldwide that Dark of the Moon, which took in $813,374,967 this far into its theatrical run, a difference of about $76 million. The third Transformers film reached the $1 billion mark on July 31st, 2011. Also remember that Age of Extinction has yet to open in multiple countries, including Japan.

AOE Highest Grossing Movie of 2014

Transformers: Age of Extinction has finally crossed the $200 million domestic mark as well as the $750 million worldwide mark. According to Sunday estimates from Box Office Mojo, Transformers 4 has reached roughly $209,031,000. For comparisons, at this point Dark of the Moon sat around $278 million and 2014's domestic leader, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, was at $200.5 million. The US box office has definitely not been strong for any movies this year but Transformers is still expected to surpass Captain America to become the highest grossing movie in the US so far this year. Worldwide, Transformers has accumulated roughly $752,531,000 with most foreign countries not reporting since July 6th. At this point in Dark of the Moon's run, it made $705,419,010 so even though TF4 is struggling (compared to past films) in the US, the movie is still making slightly more than the third film overall and has claimed the title as the highest grossing movie worldwide in 2014 so far.

TF4 Box Office Update

Transformers Age of Extinction has now raked in over $600 million worldwide before the film has even been released in all countries. The exact number is $624,281,100, but also take into consideration that box office numbers come in quite late so the film should be approaching $700 million. Age of Extinction's 13 day domestic total (as of July 9th) currently sits at $189,081,100 which is actually far less than any of the other Transformers films at this point. It is expected to make roughly $240-265 million once its theatrical run is over in a year where the summer blockbusters have struggled at home. For comparison, Transformers Dark of the Moon made $266,944,138 thirteen days into its domestic theatrical run. The worldwide box office has picked up the slack though. AOE has broken the record to become the highest grossing film in China ever, surpassing James Cameron's Avatar. Transformers has killed the Chinese box office and has already taken in a whopping $231,300,000 as of Wednesday. Foreign totals account for $435,200,000 (69.7%) of the total gross (most not reporting since July 6th). Despite, the drop in the US, Transformers Age of Extinction is expected to hit the one billion dollar mark and could possibly pass Dark of the Moon's $1.1 billion thanks to the international markets.

TF4 Passes $400 Million

In less than a week Transformers: Age of Extinction has surpassed $400 million worldwide and currently sits at $422,345,000. This number currently includes the $138,345,000 that AOE has taken in domestically after becoming the first movie of 2014 to surpass $100 million in its first weekend, but it does not yet include most of the foreign box office numbers since June 29th. As of July 2nd, the movie actually made more money in China ($134,484,000) than the US and is on its way to become the highest grossing movie in Chinese history after already having the biggest opening weekend in Chinese history. Currently Avatar holds the top spot for the highest grossing film in China. The film is also projected to get a large boost this weekend due to Independence Day in the US, as well as hitting theaters in some more countries, including the UK.

TF4 Day One Totals

Transformers 4 took care of its not so great Thursday night outing by taking in a whopping $41,600,000 (estimate) in its first day in the US. Not sure if this is counting Thursday's numbers or not. If it is, then its opening is slightly less than Dark of the Moon. If Thursday was not included in this figure, it opened with slightly larger numbers than Dark of the Moon. Worldwide, the film has accumulated roughly $122 million in its first day after big openings in China and Russia.

AOE Thursday Night Totals

Age of Extinction hit $8.8 million domestically on Thursday night for early showings according to Forbes. This actually ties for the lowest "day before release" numbers for a Transformers film in the US with TF1, but TF4 is expected to make roughly $100 million domestically for the weekend.
